For shorter intercity hops, routes without a convenient direct flight or train, or hill/tourist destinations off the rail network entirely, buses and cabs are often the more practical choice — and sometimes the only realistic one. They're also more flexible on timing than a waitlisted train ticket.

Intercity Bus Booking
- AC sleeper vs. seater: for overnight routes, an AC sleeper coach is worth the extra cost over a seater for genuine rest.
- Check operator ratings: both aggregators show reviews per operator/route — quality varies a lot between private operators.
- Confirm your boarding point: many intercity buses board from a specific stand or junction, not a station — the exact pickup point matters.
Outstation & One-Way Cabs
Traditional outstation cab bookings often charge you for the return leg even if you're only traveling one way — worth checking before you book, since it can double your effective fare.

Ride-Hailing Apps
- Ola and Uber both operate widely across Indian metros and most tier-2 cities, working much like they do abroad.
- Both offer auto-rickshaw booking options through the same app in many cities, often cheaper than a car.
Metro Rail
- Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata (India's oldest metro) all have modern metro systems.
- Often the fastest way to move around a major city during peak traffic hours — worth checking if your route is covered.

- Book through reputable apps rather than unlicensed operators approaching you directly, especially for airport pickups late at night.

- Payment methods: UPI is extremely widely accepted across India now; most apps also take cards, and cash still works everywhere.
